Police: Assistant Director Stole Thousands From Smyrna School

The 44-year-old woman allegedly pocketed $200,000 during her four-year tenure at the Montessori school.

The former assistant director of a Montessori school in Smyrna is behind bars at the Cobb County Adult Detention Facility after being arrested and charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the school over several years.

44-year-old Jannis Laverne Parsons of Hiram has been accused of taking more than $200,000 from the Covered Bridge Montessori School, where she served as assistant director between 2006 and 2010.

According to the warrant obtained by the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Parsons would steal money intended for the school by failing to deposit cash and check payments into the school's bank account.

Cobb County jail records show that Parsons has been charged with felony theft by taking and is being held in custody on a $200,000 bond.
