Publix Beer Bandit Strikes Again in Athens, Ga.

The information in this story comes from the ACC Police Department. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

An unknown person who has stolen beer repeatedly from the Publix on Gaines School Road reportedly stole seven more cases last week, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report.

Public officials reported that on Nov. 7, an unknown person came to Publix and stole six cases of Budweiser and one case of Corona. Afterwards, he left in a black 1996 Jeep Cherokee.

Several reports have been filed against the same suspect, who usually arrives in different vehicles. On Oct. 26, $165 worth of beer was taken from the same Publix.

The investigation is ongoing.

I know a guy (not going to mention any names) living in Auburn GA (just outside of Athens) who regularly swipes beer from stores. He's been known to swipe other items too, but just for sport. He's been banned from his local Ingle's, a Kangaroo station, and several other area establishments for doing this. Once, I was with him (but did not observe him) when he snagged a 20oz and drank it while walking around inside the Atlanta Kroger store! The problem with this sort of reckless behavior is not the loss the the business incurs, but the sordid personal issues that would drive someone to act in such a manner! Alcoholism much?
