Belinda McMillian violated a pair of MARTA rules during the Sunday incident in which 62-year-old Lettie Robinson was dragged 63 feet.

The MARTA bus driver from Smyrna who earlier this week was accused of dragging a woman and then leaving the scene was fired on Friday.

The transit agency found that Belinda McMillian violated a pair of rules during the Sunday incident in the Historic West End in which 62-year-old Lettie Robinson was dragged 63 feet with her arm stuck in the door.

McMillian had worked for MARTA for eight years and was found by the transit agency to have made a false statement and leaving the scene of an accident without authorization.

“We want to make it very clear that MARTA will not, under any circumstances, tolerate an incident that compromises the safety of our customers and employees,’’ said Mary Ann Jackson, the MARTA assistant general manager for bus operations, in a written statement.

McMillian, who was arrested and charged with reckless conduct, was released Monday from the Fulton County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

According the AJC, McMillian gave police conflicting reports, saying that Robinson was not on her bus, but also indicating to officers that Robinson had departed the bus with the use of her walker.
