Smyrna Citizens Police Academy Accepting Applicants

The 11-week course full of hands-on training in police work and police-community cooperation will begin in late January.

Residents of Smyrna who are interested in learning how they can join forces with law enforcement to battle crime locally are invited to apply for the 2014 Smyrna Citizens Police Academy.

According to the city's website, classes will meet once a week from 6-9 p.m. for eleven consecutive weeks, starting on Jan. 29, 2014. Classes are limited to 15 students, due to significant amount of hands-on training.

The classes will cover topics such as crime scene investigations, police ethics, a firearms simulator, and K-9 operations.

Although Smyrna residents will be given priority in applications, non-residents are welcome to apply for the course as well. All applicants must be at least 18 years old and willing to undergo a background check.
