Smyrna Fire Department to Receive Pet Oxygen Masks

A fundraiser has been established to purchase 30 pet oxygen masks for the Smyrna Fire Department.

The Smyrna Fire Department will soon be the beneficiary of a fundraising effort led by a local veterinary clinic to provide the department with oxygen masks for pets.

The Marietta Daily Journal reports that the department will get 30 oxygen masks, or six masks per station, due to contributions made at Cat Care of Vinings. The first three masks were presented on July 18 at Fire Station 5.

The three masks were purchased by Chris and Lisa Hansen, who live near the station. They decided to spend $210 to buy the masks directly. With two pets, the couple thought purchasing the masks was the right thing to do.

Prior to the fundraising effort, which began on June 11, the city's five fire stations only had one pet oxygen mask between them.

The clinic has established a GoFundMe page where donations for oxygen masks are accepted. So far, the fundraiser has generated $940. A pet oxygen mask costs $70, which puts the funding target at $2,100.
