Smyrna man arrested for apartment murder

Jelani Asim Anthony is the second man charged in the July murder of Warran Broadnax.

Smyrna police have made a second arrest in the July 26 shooting death of a homeless man at the Wyndcliff Galleria Apartments.

Smyrna’s Jelani Asim Anthony, 35, was apprehended in the early mornings hours on Tuesday according to Smyrna Police Officer Mike Smith. He joins Eric Nelson Scales in being charged with the murder of Warran Broadnax. Scales, 29, was arrested on Aug. 2.

Both men are being held in the Cobb County jail and bond has not been set.

The 55-year-old Broadnax had been living in his car in the apartment complex parking lot located at 2350 Cobb Parkway near Loehmann's Plaza Shopping Center.

Broadnax reportedly suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot near one of the apartment buildings. He was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
