Smyrna Police Officer Saves Infant's Life

The quick-thinking officer began administering rescue breaths and first aid to the toddler, who had stopped breathing.

A Smyrna Police Department patrol officer is being hailed as a lifesaver after performing rescue breathing on an 11-month-old child.

According to a department press release, Master Patrol Officer Darrell Nesbit was called to an apartment on Glendale Place at 11:40 p.m. on July 9. Inside the apartment, Nesbit discovered the child, who was not breathing and was unresponsive.

Nesbit took the infant outside and placed it on the trunk of his patrol car. He then began administering first aid and rescue breaths in an attempt to save the child's life.

Fortunately for all involved, Nesbit's quick reactions and training proved decisive, as the infant began breathing on his own shortly after Nesbit began his work.

Nesbit's actions are being directly credited for saving the infant.
