Smyrna Student Tries to Fight Teacher

A student allegedly tried to fight his teacher at a Smyrna school that provides special education for students with severe emotional behavior disorders and autism.

Hunter Oconnor of Austell is accused of removing his watch and cell phone, taking a fighting stance and telling the teacher to "come on," according to a Cobb County criminal warrant.

"The teacher refused saying, 'I don't want to fight you,' " according to the warrant. "The accused then pushed the teacher's desk out of the way and again taking a fighting stance began yelling and cussing at the teacher to come on."

Oconnor was arrested Friday on charges that include simple assault and disruption of public schools. He was booked into the Smyrna jail, but released early Sunday on a $5,000 bond.
