Warrant: Man Threatened with Gun As He Held Son

The suspect and the man were "engaged in a verbal dispute" in Smyrna.

A College Park man pointed a gun at another man as he held his 1-year-old son, Smyrna police said.

David Lavender was arguing with the man at a Villa Court Southeast residence when he allegedly "pulled a handgun from his right side," according to an arrest warrant. Two children, ages 8 and 11, witnessed the incident. They were behind Lavender when he drew his weapon, police said.

A third party was able to calm Lavender down and get him out of the residence before any shots were fired, according to the warrant.

Lavender was arrested July 18 on one count of aggravated assault and one count of cruelty to children. He was released Saturday on $15,000 bond.
