Meetings, a Parade and Spirit Night in the Week Ahead

Here's a roundup of local government, business and school news for this week in Smyrna-Vinings.

Good morning, Smyrna-Vinings! It’s the start of another busy week so let’s jump right into our look at this week’s events.

Local Government News:

Smyrna City Council meets Monday at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. Take a look at Smyrna-Vinngs Patch’s preview and check back with the site on Tuesday for complete coverage of the meeting.

The public is invited, but the meeting will be televised live on Charter Communications Public Access Channel 19. Replays of council meetings air the second and fourth Thursday of the month on Channel 23 at 7 p.m. See the TV23 section at www.cobbcounty.org for a complete rebroadcast schedule.

Smyrna Mayor Max Bacon will hold a town hall meeting for South Cobb Drive businesses Tuesday, April 17 at the Aline Wolfe Adult Recreation Center at 7 p.m.

Attendees can complete a survey prior to attending the meeting that asks what specific issues and challenges business and commercial property owners face in the South Cobb Drive corridor. These are the issues that city officials will address at the meeting.  

Learn more about the Vinings Business Association at its monthly “After Hours” event Tuesday at Sip Wine and Tapas @ Riverside from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There’s no cost to attend and a reservation isn’t required.

Smyrna Business Association hosts “Alive After Five” Thursday, April 19 at 5:30 p.m. at , 2221 Corporate Plaza Parkway. There’s no cost to attend and an RSVP can be left online.

School News:

Cobb County and Marietta City schools’ JROTC programs hold a Military Pass and Review showcasing 13 Cobb County JROTC programs Thursday, April 19 at . More than 700 cadets will march onto the football field at 6:20 p.m. and the parade should conclude at 7:45 p.m. Dress is casual for this free event.

In other school news, Tuesday, April 17 at 10 a.m. Later in the week the school holds from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m Wednesday, April 18. A portion of the evening’s proceeds are donated to the school.

Fun Stuff:

Smyrna's  is coming up Saturday and Sunday April 28 and 29. The festival features dozens of arts and crafts vendors and musical performances. Last year’s event drew a crowd of about 15,000 people. The festival gets underway Saturday at 10 a.m. and Sunday at noon and admission is free.
