Alcohol Sales License Approved for North Midtown Service Station

Despite objections from residents of the nearby Ansley Park and Sherwood Forest neighborhoods, a 24-hour convenience store and gas station will soon be selling a limited selection of beer and wine seven days a week.

The proprietor of a new 24-hour service station and convenience store in north Midtown was granted this week a license to sell beer and wine by the city's License Review Board (LRB).

“Uptown Station,” located at the edge of the Ansley Park neighborhood at the corner of Peachtree Street and Peachtree Circle, is set to open within the next few months at 1521 Peachtree Street.

The license approval came over the objections from residents of the nearby Ansley Park and Sherwood Forest neighborhoods who had previously expressed their concerns about security and safety risks to the neighborhood with regards to a 24-hour store that served alcohol.

At this week’s LRB meeting, residents had sought for a deferral of the application until February in order to continue to work for a compromise, chiefly with regards to the hours of operation. See the accompanying video for more on this week’s ruling.

The station property abuts to the Ansley Park neighborhood that contains many single-family residences with approximately 20 children residing within the block closest to the station. Among the neighbors' chief concerns have been security, access, drainage and the future development of the site.

The north Midtown area has been void of a gas station since last December when the popular Peachtree Circle Shell, which closed nightly at 11 p.m., was forced to shutter its doors in part due to escalating rent costs.

Now at the same site, Decatur businessman Alex Panjwani plans to expand the square footage of the buildings located on the half-acre parcel, connecting the primary building with a car wash structure on the property.

is beer and wine considered ALCOHOL? Do you mean they can sell Scotch? Just asking

I am delighted there will be a gas station there again. The area needs one. And, why shouldn't they sell beer and wine? The good people of Ansley need to remember they don't live in a gated community in the burbs.

Weren't there possible plans to sublease part of the site with a restaurant/coffee shop as well as renovating the area to have more of an older, retro feel?

That is correct Tyler. There has been some speculation that it could be a Dunkin' Donuts, but nothing has been announced with regards to such http://patch.com/A-yTBb

I am curious as to what all the NIBMY'S have to say now that Uptown Station has opened. I'd wager that not one single prediction of doom and gloom has occured.
