Child Safety Restraints Law Changes

Governor Deal recently approved changes to certain Georgia laws pertaining to child safety restraints.

Effective July 1, when travelling in a motor vehicle, children will be required to be properly restrained in a child passenger safety restraint device until they reach eight  years of age. The current law pertains to children until they reach the age of six.

For older children who have outgrown a traditional safety seat, this will mean a booster seat. A booster seat is designed to elevate the child to the proper height so that the seat belt will fit as it is intended. For more information, please click here.

You can have your child’s safety seat inspected to ensure that you are following both the law and best practice at the Child Safety Seat Inspection Station located within the Cobb County Safety Village. The Safety Village is located at 1220 Al Bishop Drive in Marietta. To make an appointment, call 770-514-2369.
