City of Smyrna to Consider Smoking Ban Monday Night

Council reportedly will vote on banning smoking in Smyrna's city parks during its regularly scheduled council meeting.

Update: 9:20 a.m.:

The agenda is now posted on the city's website. It is posted at the end of this article.

Original story:

The Smyrna City Council is expected Monday night to vote on banning smoking in Smyrna’s city parks.

As of Monday morning, the agenda for the council meeting had yet to be posted on the city's website.

But Councilwoman Teri Anulewicz told Patch late last week that it was expected to be on the agenda. Two weeks ago, the council heard a draft ordinance that would prohibit smoking in Jonquil City parks.

Currently smoking is prohibited inside City buildings and at City-sponsored events. If the ordinance is approved, it would make smoking a no-no at youth sporting events in city parks.

“This is really a citizen-led effort,” Anulewicz said. “This will now prohibit people from being able to smoke on the sidelines of youth football and soccer games for example.”

If approved, the ban would take effect in approximately 30 days according to the councilwoman.

The City will be broadcasting Monday evening's city council meeting online. The meeting is also broadcast on Channel 19 on Charter Cable.

Monday night's meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the City of Smyrna Council Chambers located at 2800 King Street. Here is the agenda:
