Council Votes to Keep Smyrna Millage Rate at 8.99 Mills

This is the sixth year in a row the millage rate has remained the same.

At it’s meeting Monday Smyrna City Council unanimously voted to adopt the 2012 millage rate at 8.99 mills.

City Administrator Eric Taylor explained that the millage rate is based on the Cobb tax digest that is provided by the county tax assessor’s office. The city’s millage rate has remained the same for the past six years.

“That’s a fantastic rate that we’ve been able to sustain,” said Ward 1 Council Representative Melleny Pritchett. “Not only that, but for the last four years we’ve been able to put money in reserves every year for four years and we’ve been in a recession. Our staff and the city administrator and mayor and Council have worked very diligently to do more with less and be able to put reserves in our account.”
