Federal Shutdown Could Close some Congressional Offices, Park Access

The IRS office serving Smyrna would close, but you still have to get your taxes in.

People who need help from their congressman, advice on their taxes, or just want to go for a hike along the Chattahoochee River could be out of luck if the federal government shuts down.

The would remain open during a possible federal government shutdown, but the is still evaluating the situation.

Isakson spokesperson Lauren Culbertson said the office has not made any formal decisions as to what actions it would take should the government cease operations.

Scott's Smyrna district office, located at 888 Concord Road, Suite 100, has confirmed to Patch that it would remain open, while Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill wrangle over billion-dollar-plus deficit numbers.

The IRS office servicing Smyrna and Marietta, at 1899 Powers Ferry Road, will definitely close should the government shut down.

But you still have to get your taxes done by the middle of April.

Smyrna residents who want to enter the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area via the Palisades at Akers Drive and Paces Mill will also be disappointed. The entire recreation area - trails, parking lots, everything - would be closed during a shutdown.
