Feds Weigh Suit Against Home Depot

Vinings-based home retailer allegedly sold foreign goods to U.S. government.

According to a news report Sunday from The Associated Press, federal officials are investigating allegations that Vinings-based Home Depot is in violation of the Buy American Act by providing Chinese-made products and other foreign goods to government customers.

The Buy American Act, which has its fair share of supporters and detractors, is a 1933 law aimed at protecting U.S. jobs. It requires that all materials utilized in construction of public projects originate in the U.S.

According to the A.P. story, the investigation was disclosed in a Department of Justice court filing in a California federal court. The DOJ continues to investigate the issue and still has not decided whether to join a whistle-blower lawsuit that alleges that Home Depot has violated the law.
