Letter to the Editor: Senior Citizens Facing Problems from Post Office

Some Smyrna senior citizens are seeing their packages being delivered improperly, which results in thefts and rain damage to items.

Editor's Note: The person who submitted this letter to me has asked to remain anonymous, and I will respect those wishes.

Justin,

You do such a lovely job with The Patch - Thank You.

We don't know where to go with my dilemma and want to toss it out to you for any help or suggestions.

We are senior citizens living in Smyrna, zip code 30080.

We order packages on ebay for our family, and if they are delivered "ON A SATURDAY" when my usual carrier is not on duty, they are being left on top of our mailbox for any one to steal.

We have talked with a person with the Post Office on these occasions (We have all of our notes on hand with dates, etc), and he always says "This is not the way the Post Office is to deliver mail - and I'll speak with your carrier".   Nothing is done and it remains the same.

Last Saturday - it happened again and we did not see the package (at the bottom of the hill) until we drove out.

This failure by the Postal Service has resulted in packages being stolen, packages being caught in the rain and washing down the gutter.

The Post Office official said "When a package is too large to fit in the mailbox - a notice is to be left that you need to come to the post office to pick the package up.

Justin - where can we go next to get this resolved?
