Meet the Candidates: William Llop

William Llop is running against Rep. Phil Gingrey and Michael Opitz for the Republican nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives District 11 seat. He lives in Sandy Springs with his wife and two children. Patch asked Llop questions about the District 11 race via email. 

What made you want to run for office? 

I have chosen this position in Congress as my first political office because I believe my experience has prepared me with the right tools for the position.  I have spent my entire career managing our tax and financials for small-medium sized business’ and individuals.  I believe my experience and relationship with business gives me the insight to what we need nationally with tax reform.  I also believe our Washington politicians have been lobbied into control by BIG business.  The politicians making our decisions are not listening to main street America.  They have been influenced.  It is time to put people in our National offices who have the pulse of the mainstreet of America. 

What are the most important issues facing District 11 in the future?  

 The economy is the most important issue in the race and every political race.  I want to change the income tax system of promote growth and investment in our economy.  We also need to education of our youth dirrerently.  As a  nation, we spend more dollars per capita than any other industrialized nation yet we are number 25 in the world in education.  Spending more money is not the answer, spending money wisely is.  We need to bring the moral fiber back to our youth.

You're a supporter of tax reform. What specific reforms do you propose?

I want to change the income tax system to promote growth and investment in our economy.  I will promote changes to our income tax system so that small to medium sized businesses will be able to grow and prosper, and not be discouraged from growth due to our current tax code. More specifically:

• Reduce he corporate income tax rate form 39% to 25%;
• Incentivise the Passive Investor through the change of the Passive Activity Loss Rules and allow investment in business to be allowed to get immediate tax benefits for making the investment; and,
• Accelerate Depreciation on real estate. 

What are your thoughts on District 11's transportation issues?

I am a native of Atlanta.  Although improvements are needed, I more local approach to the improvements need to be made.  The cost of the projects should be handled through the cost of the gasoline. 

What sets you apart from your opponents? 

Day in and day out for almost 30 years I have advised and consulted small to medium sized businesses and consulted and advised individuals on how to be fiscally responsible.  I completely understand now decisions in Washington affect the everyday American.  I am number 4 of 11 siblings.  I learned at an early age how to be heard and how to negotiate settlements.  So, what I bring to the table is a track record and the knowledge to make a difference.
