Teen Dies from Crash Injuries

A two-vehicle crash Saturday evening on Trickum Road near its intersection with Netherstone Drive killed one person and injured three others.

According to a news release from the , a blue 2006 Volvo S40 driven by 18-year-old Ryan Aschenbach of , was traveling north on Trickum Road. Aschenbach lost control of the vehicle, crossed over the double yellow lines and entered the southbound travel lane, where the Volvo collided with a gold 1998 Lexus GS400, driven by 52-year-old Joanne Green of Roswell.

UPDATE: Mableton Man Charged with Murder of 45-year-old Girlfriend

The woman found dead in her Mableton home Saturday night may have recently purchased a gun. Cobb Police charged Thomas Schwartz, the live-in boyfriend of Janice Oates, with her murder.

Schwartz has also been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and aggravated assault.

Powder Springs Paramedic School Under Investigation

A Powder Springs paramedic school is under investigation by the Georgia Department of Public Health after a "large number" of students complained to the agency, WSB-TV reports

One student of ProMedics EMS Academy told the TV station he paid $5,000 for a six-month training program, but more than a year later, he hasn't been able to schedule a part of the training.

Taxpayer Group Endorses Byrne for Chairman

The Cobb Taxpayers Association (CTA) announced today it is endorsing the candidacy of Bill Byrne for Chairman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.  Byrne's name will appear on the Republican July 31 special primary election ballot, along with the names of two other challengers and the incumbent Chairman.

“Bill Byrne's forthright defense and advocacy for the taxpayer mirrors the goals and objectives of the CTA,” said Lance Lamberton, CTA president. “He also has an impressive track record of success and leadership experience as the former Chairman of the Board of Commissioners in the 1990s.  Based upon his past performance, his leadership would represent a refreshing and much needed change in direction from the County's current Chairman.”

 

Acworth Health Park Opens in a Week

The first floor of the Acworth Health Park, which includes the Urgent Care Center, imaging and lab services and the retail pharmacy, will open on Monday, July 16.

The WellStar facility will offer an array of the most advanced imaging services in the region. Along with digital mammography, digital X-Ray, bone densitometry, and ultrasound, the center will provide the lowest dose CT scan available and a high field, open MRI with ambient features
