Silver Comet Trail Pedestrian Bridges Construction Update

The full Silver Comet Trail will be open to cyclists and pedestrians during the entire week of the Cobb Schools spring break from Friday afternoon, March 29, through, Monday morning, April 7.

Construction on the Silver Comet Trail pedestrian bridges continues as the Nose Creek Bridge, between mile marker 8.3 to 8.7, was closed this past Monday.

Cobb police will be issuing tickets to any trespassers on the construction site so do not enter the site. Construction crews are now in the process of installing the temporary chain link fence.

From March 3-10, Hicks Road to Concord Road will be closed due to tree removal, pavement repairs and drainage repairs along the trail at various locations within this area. The trail will be closed from mile marker 2.5 to 3.8 with no access through the construction site.

Work on the Cooper Lake Bridge, from mile marker 0 to 1.2, and the Olley Creek Bridge, between mile markers 6.3 and 7.3, has been completed and those bridges are now open.

As Patch reported in November, once the bridges are closed there will be no detours through or around them.

According to Cobb County, five pedestrian bridges are being closed between Jan. 20 and April 25 to allow for maintenance and repair of the ends of the structures. The repair work, funded by the 2011 SPLOST, will result in consecutive closures of each pedestrian bridge.

At the same time the pedestrian bridge work is being conducted, additional crews will be improving other areas along the Silver Comet Trail by repairing fences, drainage systems and grading.

The full Silver Comet Trail will be open to cyclists and pedestrians during the entire week of the Cobb Schools spring break from Friday afternoon, March 29, through, Monday morning, April 7.
