Smyrna Officials Ask Residents to Help Monitor 911 Fees

Flyer from the Smyrna Police Department included with this month's water bill explains how to make sure that your cellular line 911 fee goes to the City of Smyrna.

From the City of Smyrna

If you get a Smyrna water bill, you have a flyer from the Smyrna Police Dept in it this month which pertains to cellular phone service. The City of Smyrna operates an Emergency-911 system which means that there is no third-party involved when you have an emergency. Calls for Police and/or Fire/EMS services are not transferred but are routed to you directly. As the E-911 system is funded primarily by the $1.50 911 fee charged to your phone line, we are asking that you help make sure that your cellular line 911 fee (with your billing address in Smyrna) goes to the City of Smyrna. The instructions side of the flyer tells you what to do when you call your cellular provider. Those instructions are listed below:

Look at the Government Fees and Taxes Section of your cellular bill. Where you see the $1.50 911 fee, the bill will indicate what jurisdiction receives the fee. If it indicates anything other than Smyrna, Ga (if you live within our City limits), please call your service provider and ask for a representative in the billing department. Tell the representative that you live within Smyrna city limits and need your 911 fees to transfer to Smyrna, Georgia. You will need to make sure that all numbers are registered to the Smyrna, Ga address.

These fees assist the City of Smyrna in keeping current with 911 technology and assists with providing the most efficient and effective service for you. We thank you for your time and attention. Feel free to contact the Smyrna 911 Director at jbennett@smyrnaga.gov if you have questions or difficulty with the process.
