Smyrna SPLOST Projects Discussed at Thursday Meeting

The most expensive project on the list is a $40 million upgrade to a section of Windy Hill Road.

Smyrna residents who are interested in learning more about the city's plans for its share of the projected 2016 SPLOST revenue are welcomed to attend an information session being held at City hall Thursday evening.

The 2016 SPLOST is a proposed one-cent sales tax that would last for six years and generate an estimated $750 million for Cobb County and its cities. Cobb County estimates that the City of Smyrna would earnΒ $52,773,203 in 2016 SPLOST revenue.

According to The Marietta Daily Journal, the most expensive project on the city's wish list is a $40 million improvement to Windy Hill Road from South Cobb Drive to Atlanta Road. Smyrna's portion of the bill would be $20 million, not including $2 million the city has remaining from the 2011 SPLOST.

Other projects on the list include a brand-new Fire Station No. 2, more improvements to the intersection of Spring Road and Cumberland Boulevard, and a better intersection of Concord Road and South Cobb Drive.

The information meeting for Smyrna's 2016 SPLOST projects will be held at Smyrna City Hall on July 10 from 7 to 9 p.m., in advance of the city's vote on the project list on July 21. It is expected that the Cobb Board of Commissioners will vote on the entire project list on July 22.
