The South Cobb Drive Coalition meets for the first time tonight, and the Cobb County Commissioners stage a hearing about a possible property tax rate increase.

The public is invited to attend tonight’s initial meeting of the newly formed South Cobb Drive Coalition. It is set to meet in the from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This will be the first organized meeting of South Cobb Drive residents and businesses to discuss ways of improving the area for the future.

The debate over Cobb County’s in recent memory moves to the public today with a hearing before the Board of Commissioners at 100 Cherokee St. in downtown Marietta at 6 p.m. Smyrna-Vinings Patch plans live coverage of the hearing.

Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the Smyrna Business Association is conducting its Alive After Five event at in Smyrna’s Market Village. As reported last week, on Aug. 1 Cobb Community Transit bus service on routes 35, 65 and 70 will be discontinued. To ease the transition for those affected, Cobb Department of Transportation staff is offering guidance and information on other transportation options. These options include: carpooling and vanpooling; shuttle services; bicycling; telecommuting; walking and private transportation vendors. Finally, school and district Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) reports are expected to be released sometime this week. For Cobb schools that will be required to offer choice because of their AYP status, information will be posted on the district website around July 26.
