The Smyrna City Council meets Monday to begin a busy week of local meetings.

It’s Monday, so another Smyrna City Council meeting is set for 7:30 tonight in the City Hall building located at 2800 King Street.

It should be a rather full meeting and Smyrna-Vinings Patch will further examine what's to come later Monday afternoon, and of course will provide full coverage of the meeting itself. In the meantime, the agenda can be viewed here.

One item that is on the agenda will be the approval for a commercial building permit for Whitefield Academy for the construction of a 5,200-square-foot classroom building.

Whitefield, which begins the new school year on Tuesday, is in the midst of a $11.5 million capital campaign to improve the school’s campus. The issuance of any building permit is good news for the city, which saw the number of housing permits issued in July fall to just seven after offering 21 in April, 27 in May and 19 in June. Still, Smyrna has issued more home construction permits overall than the other five Cobb cities in 2011.

The public is invited, but the meeting will be televised live on Charter Communications Public Access Channel 19. Replays of council meetings air the second and fourth Thursday of the month on Channel 23 at 7 p.m. See the TV23 section at www.cobbcounty.org for a complete rebroadcast schedule.
