A quick peek at the First Annual Coalition of Cobb County Business Associations Summer J.A.M. and other local happenings for this first Thursday in July.

The Cobb Chamber of Commerce and the county's 12 business associations, including the Smyrna Business Association and the Vinings Business Assotiation have joined together to sponsor the First Annual Coalition of Cobb County Business Associations Summer J.A.M. Touted as the social event of the summer, the J.A.M. is expected to draw between 600 to 800 people. The event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the It serves as the first event collaboration of the Cobb Chamber and the Coalition of Cobb County Business Associations.

 

  • WSB-TV reports that the Heroes & Champions Camp, scheduled to start today at the University of Georgia, has been canceled without warning and without word on when or whether families will receive refunds for the four-day camp, which charged $325 to $375. Both the website and Facebook page for the camp appear to have been removed. The camp had advertised itself on the Smyrna-Vinings Patch calendar, and we’re sorry if the event listing here led you to lose money on the camp. If we find out more about what happened, we’ll let you know.

  • The local Little League world has descended on Sewell Park this week for two tournaments being hosted by the East Marietta National Little League. In the District 2 tournament for 11- and 12-year-olds, Smyrna Little League is one of five teams competing and the SLL all-stars include Robert Boyd, Austin Hogan, Darius Dial, Jack McLeod, David Poulos, Devin Sargent, Christian Erege, Cameron Gabbert, Kayson Smith, Carson Brown, Ethan Roback and Jalen Springfield.

Todd Brown is the manager and is assisted by coaches David Poulos and John McLeod. The team dropped its opener to Milford Wednesday night and will face East Marietta tonight. Smyrna will play at least two more games after this evening and you can follow the action, check the standings and see the schedule at this GameChanger website.

 

  • And finally, The Princess Bride, is the featured film for the free Movies at the Galleria series at the gardens at the Cobb Galleria Centre. It’s a free movie, free popcorn and free parking, starting around 8:30 p.m. "Have fun storming the castle!"
