Smyrna-Vinings Road Work Update: Oct. 12-18

Avoid gridlock and construction delays this weekend and next week.

The following information has been provided by the Office of District 2 Commissioner Bob Ott:

Paper Mill Road Bridge Replacement

Paper Mill Road Bridge at Sope Creek is closed through Oct. 25, 2013. 
The new bridge will include a six foot sidewalk on the south side, providing access to National Park Service trails. A signed detour route will be provided during construction. 
Now that school is in session expect extended delays on Lower Roswell Road (Detour Route).  Plan for alternate routes during these hours. See attached map.

Paper Mill Road at Sope Creek  – Saturday, Oct. 12, through Friday, Oct. 18
The contractor will continue work on the bridge deck, parapet walls, water line installation and roadway approaches. Utilities will be relocating services.

Lower Roswell Road Construction

Contractor is planning to work Saturday, Oct. 12 paving the roadway and trail with lane closures on Lower Roswell Road. EXPECT DELAYS

Contractor is not planning to work Sunday, Oct. 13.

Davidson Road to Willow Point Parkway – Monday, Oct. 14, throughFriday, Oct. 18
This section of Lower Roswell Road is substantially complete. Contractor is working on punch list.

Willow Point Parkway to Timber Ridge Road – Monday, Oct. 14, throughFriday, Oct. 18
Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. between Willow Point Parkway and Timber Ridge Road with one lane remaining open. Contractor will continue asphalt paving operations on the east end of the project from Willow Point Parkway to Timber Ridge Road. EXPECT DELAYS

Concord Road Construction – City of Smyrna

The contractor is not planning to work this weekend – Oct. 12 and 13     

South Cobb Drive to Atlanta Road – Monday, Oct. 14 through Friday, Oct. 18
Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with one lane remaining open in each direction at all times. The Evelyn Street intersection with Concord Road has been permanently closed.

Roswell Road (SR120) Construction - GDOT

Providence Road to Robinson Road – This GDOT project will require periodic lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with one lane remaining open in each direction at all times. EXPECT DELAYS

North Marietta Parkway @ I-75 Bridges - GDOT

Road closure on North Marietta Parkway between Wallace Road and Cobb Parkway from 11 p.m. Friday night, Oct. 11 to 5 a.m. Monday morning, Oct. 14.  This GDOT project is to replace the concrete slabs under the I-75 overpass and will include the closure of both I-75 ramps. This road closure will also take place the next three weekends (Oct. 18, Oct. 25, and Nov.1).

Silver Comet Trail 

CCDOT maintenance crews will soon begin replacement of the wooden boards on the Silver Comet Trail Bridge over the East-West Connector.  The actual start time depends on the delivery of the specially cut  and treated wooden boards.  Pedestrian traffic will have access through the construction site during the deck replacement. Warning signage will be clearly posted on each approach to the bridge advising of construction activity.   Bikers should expect to stop and dismount when approaching the bridge for their own safety, as well as that of the construction workers.  Since pedestrians and bikers will have access during the replacement work it will take from 45 to 60 days weather permitting.

Road Resurfacing

Asphalt paving operations are scheduled Saturday Oct.12, and Monday Oct. 14 through Friday Oct. 18** on the following roads: EXPECT DELAYS.

  • Sewell Mill Road from Roswell Road to Johnson Ferry Road
  • New Paces Ferry Road from Paces Ferry Road to Paces Ferry Road
  • Beech Haven Trail from Log Cabin Drive to Cumberland Parkway
  • Log Cabin Drive from Dead End to Beech Haven Trail

 ** The above scheduled work is subject to change due to weather or construction progress.
