Silver Comet Trail
Cobb County DOT maintenance crews are replacing the wooden boards on the Silver Comet Trail Bridge over the East-West Connector. Pedestrian traffic will have access through the construction site during the deck replacement.  Warning signage will be clearly posted on each approach to the bridge advising of construction activity.  Bicyclists should walk their bikes across the bridge for their own safety and that of the construction workers. Both pedestrians and bicyclists will be held by construction personnel until it is safe to cross. Since pedestrians and bicyclists continue to have access during the replacement work it will take from 45 to 60 days, weather permitting.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Six pedestrian bridges along the Silver Comet Trail will be closed to the public this winter while Cobb DOT contractors construct new bridge ends at the Silver Comet Trail bridges over: Powder Springs Creek, Lucille Creek, Noses Creek, Olley Creek, Nickajack Creek and Cooper Lake Road. Built more than a century ago, between 1890 and 1904, two bridge ends must be replaced, three bridge ends must have approach work repairs and one bridge requires deck repairs.

Repair of these bridges will occur in CONSECUTIVE CLOSURES of each pedestrian bridge between January and April. There will be NO ACCESS across these bridges during construction. There will be no detours around each bridge. It is imperative that trail users follow all warning signs and stay out of these construction zones as there will be drop offs, some as deep as 10 feet, that could cause serious injury or death for anyone ignoring warning signs and attempting to cross through a construction zone.

Concurrent with the bridge repairs, there will be other contractors working along the entire trail repairing fences, drainage systems and completing minor grading. It is imperative that all trail users obey all construction signs, slow down when approaching construction zones, dismount and walk thru any construction site where signs indicate that the trail is not completely closed. If the trail is closed, DO NOT ENTER.

In addition, beginning in the spring, there will be a rolling trail closure as the entire trail in Cobb County is resurfaced. More information regarding the resurfacing will be forthcoming.

Schedule information and project updates will be posted at www.cobbdot.org. For more information, please contact Project Manager, James Hudgins, at 770-420-6658 or james.hudgins@cobbcounty.org.
