Smyrna-Vinings Road Work Update: Nov. 2-8

Avoid gridlock and construction delays this weekend and next week.

The following information has been provided by the Office of Cobb County District 2 Commissioner Bob Ott:

The new bridge at Sope Creek includes a six foot sidewalk on the south side providing access to National Park Service trails. The contractor is not planning to work this weekend – Nov. 2 and 3.

Paper Mill Road at Sope Creek  – Monday, Nov. 4, through Friday, Nov. 8
Expect intermittent lane closures between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. while contractor continues finish work on bridge and roadway approaches.

Lower Roswell Road Construction

The contractor is planning to work Saturday, Nov. 2, performing wall construction.

Contractor is not planning to work Sunday, Nov. 3.

Davidson Road to Willow Point Parkway – Monday, Nov. 4, throughFriday, Nov. 8
This section of Lower Roswell Road is substantially complete. Contractor is working on punch list.

Willow Point Parkway to Timber Ridge Road – Monday, Nov. 4, throughFriday, Nov. 8
Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. between Willow Point Parkway and Timber Ridge Road with one lane remaining open. Traffic has been shifted to a 3-way stop at the intersection of Lower Roswell Road and Timber Ridge Road. Contractor will continue wall construction, concrete work and grading for the new roundabout. Utility companies continue to relocate services. EXPECT DELAYS

Concord Road Construction – City of Smyrna
The contractor is not planning to work this weekend – Nov. 2 and 3    

South Cobb Drive to Atlanta Road – Monday, Nov. 4, through Friday, Nov. 8
Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with one lane remaining open in each direction at all times. The Evelyn Street intersection with Concord Road has been permanently closed.

Roswell Road (SR120) Construction - GDOT
Providence Road to Robinson Road – This GDOT project will require periodic lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with one lane remaining open in each direction at all times. EXPECT DELAYS

North Marietta Parkway @ I-75 Bridges - GDOT
Road closure on N. Marietta Parkway between Wallace Road and Cobb Parkway from 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4.  This GDOT project is to replace the concrete slabs under the I-75 overpass and will include the closure of both I-75 ramps. 

Silver Comet Trail
CCDOT maintenance crews will soon begin replacement of the wooden boards on the Silver Comet Trail Bridge over the East-West Connector.  The actual start time depends on the delivery of the specially cut and treated wooden boards.  Pedestrian traffic will have access through the construction site during the deck replacement.  Warning signage will be clearly posted on each approach to the bridge advising of construction activity.  Bikers should expect to stop and dismount when approaching the bridge for their own safety, as well as that of the construction workers.  Since pedestrians and bikers will have access during the replacement work it will take from 45 to 60 days, weather permitting.

Road Resurfacing
Asphalt paving operations are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2, and Monday, Nov. 4, through Friday, Nov. 8** on the following roads: EXPECT DELAYS

  • Sewell Mill Road from Roswell Road to Johnson Ferry Road
  • Beech Haven Trail from Log Cabin Drive to Cumberland Parkway
  • Log Cabin Drive from Dead End to Beech Haven Trail
  • Powers Road from Woodlawn Drive to Johnson Ferry Road
  • Indian Hills Subdivision between Indian Hills Parkway, Fairfield Drive and Lower Roswell Road
