The Week Ahead in Smyrna-Vinings

Here's a look at what's in store for the week of April 23 including a neighborhood association meeting, a festival and an opportunity to serve the community.

Good morning, Smyrna-Vinings! After a beautiful weekend let’s take a look at the week ahead.

Local Government News:

Smyrna City Council meets Monday at 5:30 p.m. for a Committee of the Whole meeting at City Hall in the conference room. The meeting is open to the public.

Because there are five Mondays in April this year Council will not meet again till its regular meeting Monday, May 7. Council Representative Teri Anulewicz will hold a Fifth Monday meeting for Ward 3 residents at the in the conference room from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m Monday, April 30.

State Sen. Doug Stoner will be speaking twice in Smyrna-Vinings on Tuesday first at the Smyrna Rotary Club at 12:15 p.m. at and then again at the annual Vinings Homeowners Association meeting at 7 p.m. at the .

Also at 7 p.m. Tuesday the Cobb County Board of Commissioners meets for its regular meeting at 100 Cherokee Street in Marietta.

Fun Stuff:

are this weekend. The two-day festival gets underway Saturday at 10 a.m. and includes dozens of arts and crafts vendors, kids activities and live music. Sunday the festival begins at noon. Entrance to the festival is free.  

Be on the starting line for the Jonquil City Jog at 8 a.m. Saturday. This fast, flat course through Smyrna starts and ends at City Hall and is a Peachtree Road Race qualifier. The runner who comes in first place for each age division is awarded a Kenny’s key lime pie. Registration can be completed online and the deadline to sign up is Wednesday, April 26 at 6 p.m.

Also during the festival is the Friends of the Smyrna Library book sale. Gift quality books will be on sale at prices ranging from $1 to $3. The sale will be held Saturday and Sunday during Jonquil Festival hours. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Smyrna Public Library.

Give back this weekend through service event. Volunteers can work at one of 20 sites throughout the county including MUST Ministries and school and park renovation.

Volunteers should meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. at in Vinings. Buses leave at 9:45 a.m. to get volunteers to their sites by 10 a.m. Breakfast, lunch and a ServeCOBB t-shirt are provided. Register to volunteer online. For more information call 678-315-9417.
