The Week Ahead in Smyrna-Vinings

There’s a lot on the agenda for Smyrna-Vinings this week, so let’s dive right into our look at the week ahead.

Smyrna City Council meets Monday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. The agenda looks light and includes a public hearing for a modification of the site plan and zoning conditions for Vintage Square Subdivision and the reappointment of Downtown Development Authority members.

Council will also vote whether to approve the use of $340,086 of Community Development Block Grant Funds between the city of Smyrna and Cobb County. The complete agenda can be viewed at the city of Smyrna website. 

The public is invited, and the meeting is also televised live on Charter Communications Public Access Channel 19. Replays of council meetings air the second and fourth Thursday of the month on Channel 23 at 7 p.m. See the TV23 section at www.cobbcounty.org for a complete rebroadcast schedule.

Before the meeting, outstanding Smyrna students will be recognized at the Mayor's Education Awards. The ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. and will also be broadcast on Channel 19.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners meets Tuesday at 9 a.m. at 100 Cherokee Street in Marietta. Smyrna-Vinings Patch will post a live blog of the event Tuesday morning.

You’ve got two chances to hear from state Rep. Rich Golick this week.  He’s scheduled to speak at Smyrna Rotary Club Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. at Brawner Hall.

Golick will join his colleagues state Rep. Stacey Evans and state Sen. Doug Stoner for a Cobb Chamber Smyrna Area Council meeting Thursday, May 10 at 7:45 a.m. at the Smyrna Community Center. Golick, Evans and Stoner will present a wrap-up of the legislative session.

Don’t forget to nominate your favorite 501 c3 nonprofit for a donation from Patch . The deadline to nominate your favorite nonprofit is Wednesday, May 9 at 5 p.m.

Smyrna-Vinings Patch will spend Thursday giving back to the community and . So far Atlanta Pet Rescue is in the lead, but you’ve got till Tuesday at 5 p.m. to vote for the Smyrna-Vinings nonprofit you think would benefit most.
