This week in Smyrna-Vinings

A rundown of Monday's city council agenda plus a look at the week ahead.

Today may be Super Bowl Sunday, but tomorrow is just another Manic Monday and that means it’s time to take a look at the Smyrna City Council agenda and see what else is on the calendar this week.

Tomorrow’s Smyrna city council agenda includes a public hearing regarding new ownership and agent-retail package sales of beer and wine for the RaceTrac convenience store at 4290 East West Connector. Ward 1 Council Member Melleny Pritchett will appoint her representative to the Keep Smyrna Beautiful board and the mayor will sign two proclamations recognizing Arbor Day and Black History Month.

Various items on the consent agenda include approving two upcoming events at , a shrimp boil and a St. Patrick’s Day Party. Council members will also approve a bid placed by CIP Projects in the amount of $18,438 to repair the Tolleson Park pool grate.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at Smyrna city hall. See all the city council action on Charter Communications Public Access Channel 19. Later in the week Cobb County Chairman Tim Lee is the guest speaker at the Vinings Business Association’s First Tuesday luncheon at . Attendees need to reserve a seat 24 hours in advance and lunch is $15 for VBA members and $20 for guests and non-members. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m.

Two Smyrna civic clubs also have meetings Tuesday. Smyrna Golden "K" Kiwanis meets at 9:30 a.m. at the for coffee and conversation followed by its weekly meeting at 10 a.m. The Rotary Club of Smyrna’s weekly meeting begins at 12:15 p.m. at the .

The Cobb County School Board meets Wednesday at 8:30 a.m at 514 Glover Street in Marietta. Check out a live stream of the meeting online.

The meets Wednesday at noon at The Vinings Club. The week's scheduled speaker is Brenda Erickson who will talk about the district's literacy initiative.

Thursday, Feb. 9 Cobb District 3 Commissioner Bob Ott will hold a town hall meeting at the Smyrna Community Center beginning at 7 p.m. Smyrna-Vinings Patch will have coverage of this meeting later in the week.

Also on Thursday is the meeting at Rev Coffee. Parents and students interested in the school that is set to open in July 2013 can pre-register and see what SAE has to offer. The meeting begins at 6 p.m.
