Woman Indicted in Smyrna Hit-and-Run

The crash seriously injured a Smyrna motorcycle officer.

A Cobb grand jury has indicted a 23-year-old Chamblee woman who allegedly hit an on-duty Smyrna motorcycle officer last May without stopping.

Jennifer Karen Cook, according to the indictment, was driving on South Cobb Drive on May 8, 2012, when she made a left turn into the path of Cpl. Gene Crawford, said Kim Isaza, the spokeswoman for Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds.

Cook struck Crawford near South Cobb Drive and Ridge Road, which left him with two broken ankles, a broken leg and a fractured hip, police told Patch last year.

Cook, who is free on $25,000 bond, is charged with serious injury by vehicle and hit and run and reckless driving. If convicted of all charges, she could be sentenced to up to 21 years in prison and fined $1,000.
