How Fast is Too Fast on I-285?

Speed limit up to 65 mph, south of I-20; variable speed limits coming for northern portion next October.

By Jay Scott

Anyone who drives I-285 knows that speed limits are not always followed by drivers in a hurry.

The limits are changing to reflect a busy, fast-paced world. The Georgia Department of Transportation at noon Friday is raising the speed limit on the Perimeter from 55 mph to 65 mph south of I-20.

Next October, GDOT will introduce variable speed limits on I-285, north of I-20. Limits will range from 45 mph to 65 mph, based upon traffic.

Do you feel safe with faster speeds on parts of I-285? Tell us what you think in the comments.
