"Be a Part of Art" at Smyrna Elementary

Smyrna Elementary PTA is collecting donations to help cover the cost of a mural being painted by a local artist.

The newly established Smyrna Elementary PTA is seeking donations to help with the cost of a mural that will be painted in the school's media center.

The art piece, which takes a year to complete, is being painted by local mural artist Scott McIntyre. It features a historical timeline of both local and global events starting with ancient Roman and Greek history all the way up to the colonization of the Americas.

The history of the United States will also be featured, including the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, with emphasis and details on the history of Georgia, Cobb County, and Smyrna.

“We are so excited to have such a great artist such as Scott paint the mural for the media center. Not only will this add to the esthetics of media center, it will also allow the children to have a visual history of the world in front of their eyes every day”, said Principal Brett Ward.

Smyrna Elementary's PTA members are collecting donations to help cover the cost of the mural. For a minimum contribution of $20, a person’s name, a family name or a business name is added into the mural. There are also sponsorship levels of Bronze ($100), Silver ($250), Gold ($500), and Platinum ($1000).

To become a sponsor or make a donation, visit the Smyrna Elementary School website, and click on Be a Part of the Art for a contribution form and an example of Scott McIntyre’s mural work. Click here to find more examples of McIntyre's work online.

The new Smyrna Elementary is located behind Market Village in downtown Smyrna. It will open its doors this fall, and serve as a replacement for Brown Elementary School.

An estimated 700 students from Brown, Argyle and Belmont Hills elementary schools will attend the school this fall as a result of rezoning.
