Campbell Middle's Ivory Honored by CCSD

Vernon Ivory, a special education paraprofessional, is the 2011 School Professional of the Year for Cobb middle schools.

The Cobb County School District and the Cobb Schools Foundation recently announced the 2011 Classified Employee of the Year awards. The awards honor three school professionals at each academic level, as well as a support professional from one of the District’s operational divisions, that have made significant contributions to his or her school.

Honorees from each school and facility joined members of the Board of Education and District officials at NorthStar Church in Kennesaw, where Superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa announced the District-level award winners. Among the 2011 School Professional of the Year winners was Vernon Ivory, special education paraprofessional at .

Ivory came to then CMS Principal Denise Mcgee a few years ago looking to get involved with schools after retiring from the private sector.

“Vernon Ivory is a special education power professional and has worked in support of special education and related classes,’’ said Mcgee, now in her first year as the Campbell High principal. “He has been such a plus over there. He heads up the Elite Gentleman’s Club, which is a mentoring group for males. We’re hoping to establish that here.’’

Also honored were Hazel Perez, clerk at Shallowford Falls Elementary; and Natalie Feller, clerk at Hillgrove High. The 2011 Support Professional of the Year is Darcy Snelling, executive secretary to area assistant superintendents Angela Huff, Jill Kalina & Charlotte Stowers.

All four Classified Employees of the Year received a commemorative crystal bowl, as well as a cash award from the Foundation.

“Vernon is really a great person,’’ Mcgee said. “Very caring and will do anything to make sure the kids are successful.’’
