Campbell Students Chosen for Governor's Honors

They are among the 86 participants selected from the Cobb County School District.

Students from Campbell High School have been chosen for the Georgia Governor's Honors Program this summer.

They are among the 86 students selected from the Cobb County School District. Three students from Marietta City Schools also were chosen as part of a group of 690 finalists statewide, out of more than 3,000 applicants.

The Governor's Honors Program, which is administered by the Georgia Department of Education, is a summer residential instructional program designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year.Β

Activities are designed to provide each participant with opportunities to acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes to become independent, life-long learners. The Georgia Governor's Honors Program is fully funded by the Georgia General Assembly and operates at no cost to participants.

Here are the Campbell students and their areas of concentration:

  • Kendall Uvena, Social Studies;
  • Chandler Annesi, Communicative Arts;
  • Wenquing Zhuo, Communicative Arts;
  • Tiffani Tran, French;
  • Baijang Chen, Mathematics;
  • Mariam Slaibi, Social Studies;
  • Emmanuel Basil, Spanish;
  • Jacob Mortensen, Visual Arts.

Students will arrive on the campus of Valdosta State University on Sunday, June 23. For four weeks, students will spend the morning in their major area of nomination, exploring topics not usually found in the regular high school classroom.

During the afternoons, students choose one of the other areas in which to study. The curriculum in all the areas is challenging and engaging. Evenings are filled with seminars, activities, concerts, and performances.
