Ceremony Recognizes Accomplishments of JROTC Cadets

More than 700 cadets from Cobb County and Marietta City schools will participate in a Pass in Review at Campbell High School Thursday.

Junior ROTC cadets representing all Cobb County and Marietta City high schools will convene at Thursday, April 19 for a military Pass in Review. Thursday’s event will be the first time Cobb County and Marietta City schools’ JROTC programs have participated in a Pass in Review together.

Maj. Larry Moyers, JROTC instructor at Campbell, explained the ceremony.

“It’s a ceremony that’s used to recognize individuals for accomplishments or for a guest commander to review the troops and see what they look like,” he said. “So it’s kind of a combination in honors.”

Moyers said 700 cadets from Cobb and Marietta City high schools will convene in formation on the football field at 6:15 p.m. where they will be reviewed by Dr. Emily Lembeck, Marietta City schools superintendent, Dr. Michael Hinojosa, Cobb County schools superintendent and Lt. Gen. Joseph Redden, former Cobb County school superintendent and retired Air Force officer.

Wade Lnenicka, Ward 6 Council Representative and an Army Ranger, said a Pass in Review of this scale has never happened in Cobb County before.

“The purpose is to showcase all the JROTC programs in Cobb County and Marietta schools and to highlight the patriotism that students exhibit,” he said.

Moyers said the first JROTC Pass in Review was held at Campbell in the mid-1990s. Cobb County schools take turns hosting the event each year, but this is the first time Marietta City schools have been invited as well.

“We really are wanting to showcase to allow the cadets to see that this is a good thing to showcase JROTC, to be able to highlight pride in what they’ve accomplished and also the military itself,” he said.
