CHS senior named best female athlete in Cobb
Monti Willis will receive the Bobbie Bailey Award for Athletic Excellence Monday at a banquet as part of Kennesaw State University's celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
Campbell High School senior Monti Willis will be honored as the best high school female athlete in Cobb County with the Bobbie Bailey Award for Athletic Excellence at a banquet Monday. The banquet takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the M. Bobbie Bailey and Family Performance Hall and is part of Kennesaw State University’s celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
Willis finished her last indoor track season with Campbell by winning the Alabama Crossplex indoor invitational meet in January where she set a meet record for 60 meter hurdles.
Willis’s talents are not just limited to athletics. She’s also a student in Campbell’s prestigious International Baccalaureate program. Campbell’s girls track and field coach Mike McLoud explained that Willis’s “focus and level of discipline for her age” is what sets her apart as a student and an athlete.

“She’s got the right skill-set as far as those things are concerned and she has great family support,” he said. “She’s got a winning combination.”
McLoud says Willis plans to study pre-pharmacy in college and he expects her to sign a full track and field scholarship.

McLoud said he likes to tell the girls “success is directly proportional to your level of commitment. His commitment to coaching the team and the girls’ commitment to success has resulted in a legacy of Bobbie Bailey award winners. Jasmine Edgerson, class of 2009, took home the award three years ago. McCloud is modest about the accomplishments of his team.
“We’re competitive,” he said. “You can put it that way.
Campbell High School wrapped up its indoor track season in January with a long list of accomplishments. Here are some of the highlights:
Allan Frye won the Clemson University high school Invitational in the 55-meter hurdles on Saturday Jan. 21. More than 500 athletes competed. Other notable indoor meet results from the Alabama Crossplex indoor invitational meet, which featured more than 1,000 athletes include: 60-meter dash Qadeem Salam—sixth place; 800-meter run Laurie Pray—ninth place; 400-meter dash Tyshawn Smith sixth place; Boys 4x200-meter relay second place finish. Members of this squad include Tyshawn Smith, Quincy Perdue, Arviel Jenkins and Qadeem Salaam. Congratulations to the other team members that competed in the indoor competition.
