Classes at International Academy of Smyrna Resume Tuesday

A water main break last week caused flooding and the cancellation of classes on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Students and staff at the International Academy of Smyrna will get back to business as usual after on Tuesday morning a burst water main closed the facility down for several days last week.

On Jan. 8, a water main inside the building ruptured, causing flooding on the first floor of the facility and forcing the shutoff of the school's water supply. The damage was so extensive that classes for Thursday and Friday of last week were cancelled.

Kari Schrock, Principal of the International Academy of Smyrna, has provided the following information to parents and guardians for the resumption of classes on Tuesday morning:

1.  Carpool can only be accessed from the front of the building until further notice. Please note that the additional vehicles in the front carpool lineup will potentially create a delay both in morning arrival and afternoon departure.  Parking at Publix and Burger King are still prohibited during carpool hours. Please plan accordingly. Your patience is most appreciated.

2.  Students in Ms. Shearod's 2nd grade class and all 3rd grade classes, please report to the cafeteria upon arrival Tuesday morning. Your teacher will be there to meet you and escort you to your relocated classrooms.

3.  We are back up and running with BSP/ASP as of Tuesday morning. Please note that, due to limited space availability, some enrichment programs are on hold until further notice.

4.  All aspects of our lunch program will resume business as usual. Nothing in the kitche
n or cafeteria has been adversely effected by the flood damage.

S
chrock has also promised to keep parents and guardians updated on the progress to repairs on the flooded portions of the building.
