Community Spotlight: 5K Benefit Run for Injured High School Grad [VIDEO]

Join the Lassiter High School community this weekend to support an injured high school student.

This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the Christopher Heitzman Benefit 5K Run. The event takes place Saturday morning at Lassiter High School, with proceeds to help pay for medical expenses for the injured graduate.

Heitzman, who graduated from Lassiter last spring, was seriously injured in a car accident last July on Trickum Road that killed his classmate, Ryan Aschenbach, and injured another recent Lassiter graduate Tylor Seaman.

Heitzman sustained a head injury and several broken bones, and will need more surgeries. The fundraiser has collected just under $40,000 from pre-registration, and is hoping to raise more money to help cover Heitzman's medical expenses.

Pre-registration for the run is $20 in advance (PayPal payment to jdcole001@yahoo.com as "gift") and $25 the day of the race. Click here or contact Jamie Cole at jdcole001@yahoo.com or 404-384-9304 for more information.

A raffle, vendors, snacks and live music in the Lassiter parking lot after the run are also part of the event.
