Dedication Ceremony for Smyrna Elementary Today

Smyrna residents are invited to attend today's dedication ceremony for the new school.

Community members are invited to attend a dedication ceremony for the new Smyrna Elementary School.

The ceremony is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, and there will be light refreshments and music.

“We are so excited to finally open and dedicate Smyrna Elementary. The staff, faculty, and PTA have put so much time and effort into opening this school, that it is great to see the school open its doors to students,” said Principal Brett Ward.

Being the new addition to Smyrna and Cobb's schools community, Smyrna Elementary will welcome an estimated 700 students this fall rezoned from Brown, Argyle and Belmont Hills elementary schools. It is located at 1099 Fleming Street behind the Smyrna Market Village off Atlanta Road.

“We expect this to be a great economic advantage for the City of Smyrna. A brand new school with the latest technology, coupled with a dedicated and educated parent base is bound to have a positive effect on the city,” said Kimberly Watkins-Swenk, VP of Communications for the Smyrna Elementary PTA.

The first day of school is Aug. 7.
