American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program

                              Yes, 2011 is finally here!

I hope you had a great Holiday period and are now charged up enough to enter this Oratorical Program, being offered by American Legion Post 160, Smyrna.

We only have 5 weeks left until the contest date of Saturday, February 5th, 2011 at 1:00pm. There  is no application or entrance fee required, except for your commitment to finish the program.

Each contestant must offer an originally prepared presentation of not less than 8 minutes nor more than 10 minutes, on some aspect of the United States Constitution, emphasing the duties and obligations of a citizen to our government.

Additionally, each contestant must present a 3 to 5 minute discourse on one of four topics, designed to test the speaker's knowledge of the subject matter. The four topics will be made known to you beforehand, and one of the four will be selcted at the time of the contest.

Cash awards are offered at each level of the competition, all the way to the National level of $18,000 for 1st place, $16,000 for 2nd place and $14,000 for 3rd place.
