Jobs Fair, Fun in the Sun on the Way

Whether you're looking for employment or merely seeking out a good time, there's plenty of local options on the horizon.

Get outside this weekend, as there will plenty of reasons to get off the couch and soak up the sunshine.

But before all that sun in the fun, don’t forget about Friday’s annual 13th Congressional District Jobs Fair hosted by U.S. Rep. David Scott.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Georgia International Convention Center, located right off the I-85 and I-285 Camp Creek Parkway exits near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Among the more than 100 companies scheduled to participate include Lockheed-Martin, Comcast Cable, Tyco International, FedEx, Dendreon, AT&T, Douglas County Fire/EMT, Sun Trust Bank, IBM, the FBI and the Atlanta Police Department.

Scott has a off Concord Road and told Smyrna-Vinings Patch that his focused goal is to help lower the unemployment rate in his district and beyond. See here for more information.

On Saturday, will hold its Smyrna Spring Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This yard sale-type event will feature tables with household and baked goods as well as booths from retail businesses like Scentsy, Bounce About Rentals, Stardust Shoppe, Angela’s Artworks and Godly Wellness.

Concessions will also be for sale. If you’d like to participate in the Smyrna Spring Market as a vendor, contact Erin Anderson at tweeterin@hotmail.com.  All vendor fees support Imagine International Academy of Smyrna.

will be raising money for its P.E. department Saturday with its annual Walk a Mile for Argyle fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

“The point is to encourage health habits,” said Jennifer Owens, first grade teacher and PTA treasurer at Argyle. “They’re going to pass out bags with literature that promote keeping healthy.”

Walkers will meet at Argyle Elementary and walk along the Spring Road bike trail. There is no cost to walk, but donations are welcome. Walkers who donate $10 receive a t-shirt. Pets and strollers are welcome.

Of course, the Jonquil Festival is this weekend in the Smyrna Market Village. Look for the Smyrna-Vinings Patch tent and stop by and say hello.

Also in the Market Village this weekend will be ’s charity crawfish boil Saturday and Sunday. It will features live music by Homefront, Generation Now, and Red Clay Rumble. All proceeds go to Mustard Seed Communities, a charity that cares for children with disabilities in developing nations.

Furthermore, there’s the 2011 Jonquil City Jog that gets going Saturday morning outside city hall. Additionally on the athletic front, the 2011 Arthur Bacon Golf Tournament takes place Saturday and Sunday.
