Five quick bits to start the work week.

1. Funeral services: The funeral for Eula Vonceil Curtis Williams will be held today at 1 p.m. at Marietta’s Milford Baptist Church. Mrs. Williams, 87, passed on Friday after contracting an infection following a hip replacement surgery in January. Mrs. Williams and her husband, GB, who passed in 2002, operated numerous businesses around the Smyrna area.

State Rep Terry Johnson of Marietta told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the Williamses were “a pioneer family.’’ Smyrna’s Carmichael Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and in lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Milford Baptist Church. 

2. School calendar survey: The Cobb County Board of Education is asking citizens to give their input on the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 school calendars. The board to launch the online survey Friday. 3. Oratorical scholarship program: Congratulations to a pair of Campbell High School students on their recent performances at Smyrna’s American Legion Post 160 in the High School Oratorical Scholarship Program. Sophomore Mark Illao finished first after delivering a prepared oration on “Government, People and Principle.’’

He will move onto the 5th District Finals to be held this coming Saturday at Marietta’s American Legion Post 29. Campbell junior Aaron Churchill finished third with an offering entitled, “The Blessings of Liberty.’’

4. High School hoops tournament: The Campbell basketball teams concluded the regular seasons on a winning note Friday on Senior Night at Wills Gym. The boys scored a 63-54 win over Kennesaw Mountain High to wrap up the regular season at 19-6 overall and 10-4 in Region 4-AAAAA play. The Spartans will again face visiting Kennesaw Mountain (13-11, 5-9) in the first round of the region tournament on Wednesday night.

The Lady Spartans knocked off Kennesaw Mountain 75-43 to finish the regular season campaign at 19-6 overall and 11-3 in region action. Campbell will face visiting Pebblebrook (6-17, 2-10) on Tuesday night at Wills Gym.

5. Weather: The National Weather Service has the word “sunny” in the forecast every day this week, with high temperatures mostly hanging around the 60s. 

  • Monday—Sunny. High: 63/Low: 34
  • Tuesday—Sunny. High: 62/Low: 35
  • Wednesday—Mostly sunny, with a few clouds moving in at night. High: 60/Low: 39
  • Thursday—Mostly sunny, with a few clouds moving in at night. High: 65/Low: 43
  • Friday—Mostly sunny, with clouds moving in at night. High: 70/Low: 49
  •  Saturday—Mostly sunny. High: 67
