Smyrna is gearing up for the opening of a new elementary school.

The new Smyrna Elementary, the Cobb County School District's first "green" building, will welcome more than 650 students when the 2013-14 school year begins Aug. 7, according to the school system's "good news" blog.

Located near the intersection of Windy Hill and Atlanta roads, the school is paid for with 2008 Ed-SPLOST III dollars.
