School News You Can Use: Holidays, Movies, Meetings and Screams

Here's a roundup of Smyrna-Vinings school news for the coming week plus some items you might have missed.

There’s no school in Smyrna-Vinings Monday, Sept. 3 in observance of Labor Day. Enjoy the long weekend! 

’s PTA Meeting, Parent Orientation and Curriculum Nights are Tuesday, Sept. 4 and Wednesday, Sept. 5. Parents of children in kindergarten through second grade meet Tuesday for the first PTA meeting of the year followed by parent orientation. The schedule is the same the following day for parents of children in grades third through fifth. 

Campbell High School’s Scream Team fees are due Tuesday, Sept. 4 by 4 p.m. Dues are $20. The Scream Team supports all of Campbell’s athletic teams and aims to complete two service projects this year. Fore more information visit the Scream Team website.

’s PTA Meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. New members are welcome. 

Argyle’s Family Movie Night is Friday, Sept. 7. The school is showing “Puss in Boots” and providing popcorn free of charge. The event begins at 7 p.m.

Start studying now for the Mathnasium Math Competition. The TriMathlon is Saturday, Sept. 29 and Sunday, Sept. 30 and consists of three challenges: The Counting Game (tests student’s ability to count from any number, to any number, by any number), Magic Squares (students are awarded points for developing their own math problems), and Mental Math Workout (evaluates student’s Number Sense by asking them to solve given problems the ‘smart’ way without pencil and paper). Questions become progressively more difficult for students in higher grade levels. 

Registration for Mathnasium’s TriMathlon is free and open to all students in third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades attending public, private, or home school.
