Lovett, 5-2 overall and 2-1 in region action, is coming off a 31-28 home loss to Blessed Trinity. It’s a must-win game tonight for the Lions, who welcome in the Hornets of South Atlanta, 4-3 overall and 1-2.

There will plenty of homecoming festivities tonight at The Lovett School, which is also set to dedicate a new artificial turf field in honor of former coach Bill Railey. The field is where the lacrosse teams will play their games and has also been home to other teams this fall including the Lions’ 7th grade football squad.

Railey served as head football coach at Lovett from 1982-2004 and he finished with a record of 200-73. Seventeen of his teams won seven or more games in a season and thirteen squads won 10-plus games. The dedication ceremony begins at 5 p.m.

It comes one week after the school honored one of Railey’s longtime assistants, Jim Glasser, who is a high school wrestling coach legend. Last Friday, Lovett introduced the new Jim Glasser Wrestling Room, as well as the establishment of the Jim Glasser Wrestling Support Endowment Fund.

In his 36 seasons coaching Lion wrestlers, Glasser led Lovett to 751 dual match wins and 13 state championships. The win total is the fourth highest in U.S. high school wrestling history. His career winning percentage of 93.9 percent ranks Glasser first all-time nationally.

Finally, the Wolfpack of Whitefield Academy will suit up for their final road game of the season as they travel to Locust Grove to face Strong Rock Christian. Whitefield enters the game 2-5 overall and 1-3 in region play.

The Pack has dropped three straight and five of six, but did whip the Patriots 42-6 a year ago. Strong Rock, 2-5 overall and 0-4 in league action, has lost four straight entering tonight’s contest.
