Smyrna 3-year-old's Dance Moves Earn Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta 20K

Zahrya Toregano and the "Toregano Five" finished second in the National Family Dance-Off presented by Primrose Schools.

The votes have been counted and the “Toregano Five” are the second place winners in the National Family Dance-Off presented by Primrose Schools.

Raiya Toregano thought she and her daughter Zahrya were coming to a party on Thursday morning to recognize their participation in the Dance-Off, but they left with $3,000 for Zahrya’s education fund.

“We thought they were giving us a party today to celebrate us being finalists, but we had no idea that we had even won,” Toregano said. “It was very surprising. We’re excited and it’s such a great cause. It’s great.”

But the “Toregano Five” weren’t the only big winners. Primrose Schools made a $20,000 donation to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the local Children’s Miracle Network hospital.

Primrose School of Smyrna West also contributed $2,000 to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Lauren Korthoff, program coordinator for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, attended the party to celebrate and accept the Primrose donation.

“The money that’s raised for Children’s Miracle Network this year in Atlanta is benefitting the trauma center at Children’s Health Care of Atlanta,” she said.

The Primrose School Family Dance-Off is a national competition. All Primrose School students were eligible to submit a video. More than 185 videos were submitted nationwide. The winning videos were chosen based on number of votes, but also on creativity, originality and humor.

“We usually try to participate in every event and everything that Zarhya has going on,” Toregano said. “It was for a great cause that there was nothing to even think about. It’s something that we were happy to do.”

Even though the Toregano’s made the video as a family, Zarhya stole the show. “People don’t even notice that we’re in the video until they watch it a second time. Then they’re like ‘Oh, ya’ll are back there dancing,’ because she’s like moon walking and breakdancing. She’s doing the whole thing.”
