Vinings Actress Receives Prestigious Hensley Award

Vinings resident Jamie Harwood on Tuesday received the best actress award at the Shuler Hensley Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater ceremony at the ,

The Lovett senior received the award for her performance as Marian Paroo in Lovett's production of "The Music Man."

She won a trip to New York City to compete against the top 40 high school musical performers in the nation. She will have a chance of winning a four-year scholarship to New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

Students from 41 metro Atlanta high schools competed for the awards, named for Georgia native and Tony award winning actor Shuler Hensley. The awards are a part of Artsbridge, Cobb Energy’s educational program, and are intended to focus attention on the importance of keeping theater opportunities in high schools.

Harwood was recognized as one of Smyrna-Vinings Patch’s first Whiz Kids in February.
