International Academy Will Remain Closed This Week

A broken water main caused flooding inside the building and forced an early dismissal on Wednesday.

UPDATE: The principal of the International Academy of Smyrna has said that no classes will be held on Thursday or Friday this week due to an internal water main break that flooded some parts of the building and shut off the school's supply of running water.

Kari Schrock wrote an e-mail to parents just before 8 p.m. Wednesday, in which she confirmed the two-day closure and submitted a list of local childcare providers.

Schrock wrote that repairs are currently underway on the ruptured water line and efforts are being made to remove the water that flooded portions of the first floor of the building. Further correspondence will be sent out when the repairs are complete and classes are to be resumed.

If your child attends Ms. Shearod's second grade class or any third grade class, Schrock is asking that any wet personal items that were brought home today be thoroughly cleaned as a precautionary measure.

Any personal belongings that were unable to be recovered during the early dismissal on Wednesday are safe and can be retrieved when classes resume at a later date.
